The Academy of Classical Art is based on the tradition of classical realism. All representational drawing and painting is based on observation, which is why in the Academy’s program there is a great emphasis on drawing and sketching. In the words of Michelangelo:
“Let this be plain to all: design, or as it is called by another name, drawing, constitutes the fountainhead and substance of painting and sculpture and architecture, and every other kind of painting, and is the root of all sciences. Let him who has attained the possession of this be assured that he possesses a great treasure.”
